The BSC standings determine the #1 and #2 teams...it would also determine the top 8 teams to make the playoff...
...and if a 2 loss teams beats an undefeated...well, maybe that undefeated team wasn't that good or had a week schedule!

No, it's like saying an 8 seed from the NCAA tournament shouldn't have a shot. And they shouldn't. The regular season should count for something.
So if team A goes undefeated, including beating team B in the regular season, but loses to a 2-loss team B in the "championship" game, you'd be ok with team B getting the trophy? When team A has the better record?
What's the point of the regular season then? Just selling tickets to suckers?
Playoffs are just as arbitrary as the current BCS system, but they also cheapen the regular season. At least the regular season counts for something in the BCS.
Edit - Why not just get rid of the regular season then, and just do a 125 team NCAA tournament if all you want is an arbitrarily-determined "champion".
