It all depends on the situation. "Off the shelf" cams from the majority of vendors have plenty of R&D behind them for certain combos. I'm sure some of them have cams available for your application that will work well. Custom grind cams are good for very specific applications and custom heads, etc. The person that designs the cam has to know what they're doing though. Just because it's a custom grind doesn't mean they're worth a damn.
