Calling all cars!
A number of classic car enthusiasts (including 2010 owners like me!) are meeting this Saturday for burgers and fries. Here are the details:
Time:
Saturday, November 6th, 2010, 5:00 - 07:00 pm (1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month)
Place:
Fred's Old Fashioned Burgers, 2754 Alpine Blvd # H,
Alpine, CA
I was thinking, for those who want to go, we meet somewhere between 4:00 - 04:30 pm, then caravan there! A cool start location is
Mission San Diego De Alcala (10818 San Diego Mission Road, San Diego, CA), then it is a nice 30 minute
cat-n-mouse drive to Fred's in Alpine (bring your radar detectors and Motorola-style 2-way radios if you have 'em). Here is a proposed Google route:
Fred's Old Fashioned Burgers, 2754 Alpine Blvd # H, Alpine, CA
If you haven't been to the
Mission San Diego De Alcala, there is a 'tricky' but fun (it's gotta be fun, right?) way to get into the "circular patio" parking lot in the heart of the Mission (there is room for 40 cars, I have personally counted the spaces), so unless a wedding going on between 4:00 - 4:30 pm, it will be a blast to meet there and caravan out!
Here is the "back way" in...take Friars Road EAST off I-15 exit, turn right (SOUTH) at light on Rancho Mission Road. Just as the road snakes to your right, look for an almost hidden driveway on your LEFT (EAST side of curve) bordered by trees / bushes, there should be a sign there, I believe it says "Nazareth School"...the driveway is only wide enough for 2 cars. Drive to the small parking lot and thru it keeping virtually straight (no sharp turns), go past the basketball courts on your right (road narrows), then past another parking lot on your left...keep going staying right...you should then see an entrance to the Mission's parking lot thru an arched gate (drive SLOW)...if you zoom in all the way in the start of the Google route, look for the circular ring of trees with red "spokes" in the map...that is the place!
If you look at the zoomed in map of the Mission, you will see there is a lower level parking lot for the Mission, and a road UP to that same "circular patio" parking lot in the heart of the Mission, but I have seen the gate there closed when the upper gate has been open (knock on wood). If for any reason that upper 'secret' gate is closed, several parking lots are right there we can hook up to start our caravan from!
