Just received my HUD (thanks Patrick). So having followed this thread from the beginning; and now we're all at the point of having to remove the dash (maybe). Anyone remember that old movie called “Don’t Raise the Bridge, Lower the Water”? I don’t, but I have always remembered that name and apply that logic to tough problems.

Taking the dash out looks like a time consuming effort. So, the first thing I did when I got the HUD is to remove it’s back cover and see if I could cut it in two, fit the pieces through the cut dash opening, and then re-assemble it under the dash. Looking at the picture, it seems pretty easy to cut the unit in half (almost in the vertical center line of the picture), both the main assembly and back cover. These pieces will fit through the template Ofer sent. Just need to unscrew the little motor assembly (in the upper left of the picture) and re-attach it once in the dash.

What I don’t know yet is how much “assembly room” there is to work with under the dash with maybe just the speedo removed. One “half” has 2 mounting points and the other 3. So that should be enough support without having to actually glue it back together I’ll put a good tape seal around the cut to keep dust out..

Can anyone comment on the amount of space to work with in there? I’ll probably pull the speedo out this weekend and do a mock assembly process to check it out before I cut the unit in half.

All comments are welcome…
