I think you're a little confused about what was what back in the day. The Z/28 started life as a production version of the SCCA Trans Am Sedan road racer, it had far superior handling over the SS models. While that evolved and may have changed over the years, Z/28 was the performance handling version while the SS was more oriented to straight line speeds. And I'll take my new Camaro in whatever package has great handling characteristics combined with a fairly high performance drivetrain, whatever they decide to name it (though I would prefer it to be Z/28).
