Anyway, from what I've read, according to the head of the Maryland Camaro Club, was that the GM Nationals sprang up from the Camaros at Carlisle event. Over the years it got to the point where a rift developed between Carlisle Events and the American Camaro Assoc. over control of certain aspects of the show. Due to this, the ACA decided not to renew their contract with Carlisle Events and asked the Maryland Camaro Club to sponsor a new Camaro Nationals event next year. They did it the same weekend because the Camaro Nationals has always been that weekend and they didn't feel they should be the ones to change. Sorry for attempting to paraphrase, but this has been discussed in several threads on here. Hopefully, they will be able to resolve these differences and be back together in 2012. Both the president of the MCC and at least one officer of Carlisle Events are members here. Maybe they will see this thread and post some more light into the subject.
Before camaro nationals at carlisle we had a camaro national show run for years by the International Camaro Club (ICC). they would hold the show the same weekend every year but the hotel would change every year. Then when they went away for what I think was 1 or 2 years some of those members got together and formed American Camaro assoc. That was when it started at Carlisle (1999). They were there for quite a few years before carlisle productions wanted to add GM nationals. So the camaro nationals have been around since I think 1990 or earlier.
