As you can see the "problem" occurs when the hinges are on the outside of the weather stripping-you can not just tack it to the arm to keep it clean. I would say to live with it for a while and see if it becomes a problem-I never even noticed it and you can see we made much use of the trunk! As for why they changed it from the IVER? My guess is that when you start drilling holes like that in that area you open yourself for problems with water leaks? Again just a thought, but you can bet they made the change for a reason. I don't think this will lead to negative perceived quality-your average driver is never going to notice it, and it did not present itself as an issue of being in the way, breaking, etc.-if it were something that was seen or touched a lot sure, but not this IMO.
