I just spoke to my dealer on Saturday regarding order numbers and welcome kits. There is so much talk on the forums regarding orders, order numbers, and these letters going out that I had to pin them down as to what they know, and what is true. I found out that my vehicle is at status 2050, which is "order changed" because I changed the color and some options on January 15th. They also told me that they have to print out the welcome material and I could have it if I wanted it, whatever that means, and that GM has confirmed that due to the overwhelming response for the SS, they will build a 50/50 mix to insure that the enthusiast gets their SS and not have to change their order to an RS V6. When production starts on March 16th, the plant will begin assigning status updates to orders and there is no determination as to the flow of V6's and V8's yet. We all need to make sure that we are checking with the dealer in the latter half of March to see if the status changes are coming through from the plant. Status 3100 is critical as the vehicle is assigned a sequence. It will move to 3300 which is "vehicle broadcast for production" and will be assigned a production date. After that 3800 is the status for "vehicle produced" and most times the vehicle is in transit by the time the dealer gets that and he'll have an arrival date. My O8 CTS took about 9 days to get from Lansing MI to NY. I also had the exact build date, shipping date, and arrival date to the dealer about 3 weeks before it came in. Again, your dealer will not have any status changes until production starts. Most everyone right now should be at 1100 "order placed at dealer", or possibly 1101, "order accepted by GM. Without making any changes, you should be at 2001 "order generated to dealer", which means you have an order number. if you made changes, you'll sit at 2030/2050 until production starts. Sorry for the long post....
