questions:

whats the relay for in the metra kit?
The relay is there to replace the turn-signal tick which is lost when the OE radio is removed.

Lots of ways to do it. Probably the best is to drive the aftermarket amp directly from the head unit. Leave the existing amp in place so that it can drive the center channel speaker with OnStar/OEBT audio. Make sure that the (unused) RCA inputs to the Metra kit are all grounded to prevent noise problems when OnStar/OEBT are inactive. You may need to add a speaker to keep the chime alive, tied to the front left output of the OE amp, stuffed under the dash somewhere.

See above.

The answer button does not work, but that feature will exist soon. Hang up is done by pressing the Source button on the steering wheel.

You need to add the mic that Kenwood supplies. Mount it near the OE mic.

Sort of. You can disconnect it from the PDIM and connect it into the rear of the Kenwood unit. As it's presently wired, no.

Probably. The connector is an SMB type, and the center metal part is surrounded by a keyed plastic part. The keyed plastic part is usually not compatible with different brands, so you may need to remove it (carefully). The connector should then insert into the Kenwood receiver. You might have to jury-rig some sort of strain relief to prevent it from coming loose while drifting.
