it shouldn't be that hard to have an auto dim in the same fashion your auto lights turn on and off... Obviously you have to have the LED's be very bright to see them in the day, and yes you should be able to see them in the day unless they are using very weak LED's.. Buy a Force-FX lightsaber that has 24 LED's in a string and it very very bright in the day time to give the effect of a lightsaber from Star Wars.. And those run on 3 AAA batteries for about 30 minutes so hooked up to the car battery should be a cake..
