The Bonus races often require cars that you wouldn't normally have because you don't need them to complete the regular A/B-spec races. You'll have to buy them from the New Car lot but, even if you modify it to win the bonus, you'll still gain 100k to several-100k in credits. Plus, you'll have the car and gain major XP.
Sometimes you'll luck out. I already had the Lexus IS F Racing Concept '08 that I used to win the Extreme German Touring Car A/B-spec. I used that in the last Bonus 5 race and got to pocket the full 2 million credits.
Time Trial races award no credits or XP, just bragging rights.
