Only having them on early build 2010 models makes it easier to tell who was willing to buy the car while GM was still the old GM.
I seem to remember the official GM position being that they wanted to stop promoting "GM" as a brand and let the individual core brands seem more independent. Getting rid of the GM logo was the first step towards that. The demise of "GM Goodwrench", now BrandX Certified Service, is another change that occurred along those same lines.
