The Onstar turn by turn does download the directions to the car. On my wife's '08 Avalanche, the DIC (driver information center) indicated the next direction and the systems mutes the radio to deliver voice directions (i.e. Turn right on Oak street). We have only used the service a couple of times, as we have a portable GPS for its portability and low cost.
