There are very few downfalls in offering the Hydra-Matic 6L90. The first would be cost, NOT to GM but to the buyer. GM produces the 6L90 and was specifically designed for the engines GM produces. The cost to the buyer would add an additional $1800-$2500 dollars to the MSRP. Second, would be the torque rating on the 6L90. The 6L90 is rated at 550tq and could possibly hinder GM from pushing the LSA any higher than it already is (551tq). Third is weight, at 240lbs wet, the 6L90 is still about 40lbs heavier than the 6060 w/Twin mass flywheels and Dual clutch... but its only 40lbs... and lastly, production cost.. offering two different drivetrains could push MSRP up into the unpleasant... separate transmissions, driveshafts, final gear ratios and having the flywheels, clutches/clutch peddle assembly and torque converter on hand to produce what is demanded.

There are far more advantages to just offering the 6L90 in the ZL1 but if GM waited they could have a solid idea of what the demand is for an auto ZL1. They could also avoid the risk involved by offering two ZL1s in the first year and maybe generate some profit. They could also store the 6L90 for next year to generate a buzz by offering something new.. People are already excited, no need to go all in right now..
