I compared my Garmin to My VZ Navigator on my BlackBerry Storm.. and the VZ navigator is only off by about 20 feet.. but It costs me nothing since I have a Data plan from Blackberry.
Just get something small and portable and ur okay.
PS, map updates can cost like $70.. for some GPS units.
