Welcome to the Camaro5 community!

Your Camaro has four struts. This picture shows the front struts.

You can see the coils are integrated into the assembly. The coils set the height of the car. Most people refer to the hydraulic component as a 'shock absorber'. That is not accurate. The coil is the shock absorber. The hydraulic component controls the rate at which the coil expands and contracts.

The coils are loaded which is another way of saying they are compressed. You have to exercise caution when taking them apart. If you do not have a coil compressor in your home tool kit you can take them down to the local auto parts shop and for a small fee they will swap out your coils.

For those of us who have donme suspension work the 5th Gen is a straight forward project. If this is your first time, just take your time and set aside the weekend. If it iss more than you want to bite off, send me your zip code and I'll help you select a quality shop to do the work. You have a number of choices for lowering coils and most of the vendors will visit your thread. Before you buy anything I suggest you read 5th Suspension -- THE BOOK.
