I think you need to do more research. American Pitbull Terriers were originally bred to bait bulls and bears. They are a cross of a Bulldog, which was bred to be pain insensitive to allow bull baiting; and the Terriers, which were bred for fearlessness, tenacity and energy. The cross led to a naturally aggressive, fearless dog that was pain insensitive and easily set off by motion.
I agree that a dog is the product of it's owners, to a degree. But to suggest that centuries of breeding have no impact on a dog is naive to the extreme. They were bred to fight, first bears and bulls, later hordes of rats, and lastly each other. They have no working dog background, they aren't from a herding background like a Rottweiler or German Shepard; they aren't game dogs like most of the Terriers or Retrievers. Look up the history of why they are called "Pit" dogs. And compare that to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which shares a similar breeding background.

and yet, in a loving home, they sleep with kids on top of them together. Let them play horse back and grow old with the elderly and have never shown aggression.
