I just wanted to mention my car now drops to 1st gear when it comes to a stop while in tap shift mode. I had my car tuned for my new converter and now when I come to a stop, the tranmission drops to 1st gear. It can be nice not having to tap down into 1st everytime you come to a stop.
I don't use the tap shift all that often, but it does come in handy from time to time (especially when rolling off the line slowly and you want to hold 1st gear).

If I'm not mistaken, that is normal operation. If you place your selector in manual mode and do not touch the tap shift, if will always start out in first and return to first when you come to a stop. BUT if you use the tap shift just one time while in manual mode, it will return to 2nd gear when you stop and require that you use the tap shift every time thereafter in order to make the shifts. Whenever you momentarily move the selector to drive and then back to manual, it will again start out in first. In other words, after having used the paddle to shift, you need to return the selector to drive and then back to manual is you want it to start out in first. I have not taken by car out since reading yur post and posting this answer but this is how I believe the tranny is set up. You will probably verify before me because I probably will not remember to try it.
