Yes there was/is the rumor of the 2012 or some future V6 Camaro getting a new engine. The speculation was that it would be based on the new 3.0. That particular engine is known for good HP numbers but not so great in the TQ department. This engine was also supposed to be E85 compliant...see the link below for info

Then there was the news of the new 2LS car for best MPGs. It is basically an automatic LS car with a 2.92 gear ratio compared to the current 3.27 ratio. More info on that below:

In my opinion the Camaro V6 needs gearing options to establish itself as a consistent upper 13's 1/4 mile runner stock. Even if the new engine comes out and makes more power, it is going to have to have a significant power jump to do it on power alone. Maybe in the future, GM will advertise good MPGs for the V6 camaro based on the new cars with the 2.92 ratio, but hopefully they will offer something like 3.55s in addition to that (which is exactly what Ford does cept theis is a 2.73 and 3.31 ratios). But I have a feeling we will be stuck with the 3.27s as the most aggressive factory gearing.
