As long as you are active military it can stay registered in NC. So whatever the inspection is in NC is all you have to worry about. If the car requires an inspection in NC as long as you are stationed out of state you are under a military grace period till you either ETS or return back to NC. My Inspection was out for two years when i was stationed in VA. Just show the cop your Active duty ID and you will be fine. if you get written a ticket just take it to the JAG and they will normally call the Judges office for you and get it dismissed.
