Are you kidding? I think the Avalanche is awesome...especially the latest ones...Chevy did a great job of redesigning them (this time without the plastic cladding...which by the way, after the first year and a half of them being out, you could get one without the cladding and they looked good then too.).
The original Avalanche concept was very cool...but, like all concept-to-production deals, things change. Wheels sizes dropped, light bars weren't available, bumpers changed a little to meet crash standards, etc.
I agree, GM/Chevy doesn't put big enough wheels/tires on it to fill the wheelwells (on any of their trucks/SUV's really), but they are available....(smaller diameter is a cost saving/keep the price down thing...nothing more).
Now, don't get me wrong, I would rather have my Silverado Crew Cab, (same functionality but at a lower price), but the Avalanche is a great option for someone who has a couple of kids that have to be hauled around, but also need a pickup.
My only gripe about the Avalanche would be the cost.
The Ridgeline is a (very) overpriced POS...no doubt....it isn't a truck, it's a slightly lifted El Camino, and that's not a good thing.
