Well from everything I have read the flickering is caused by the daytime running lights. The low power output is not liked by hid , they want to be on full or off. The relay solves this by connecting to battery for power rather than the factory halogen bulb socket.
I narrowed it to my relay in my harness actually being shot as far as my install goes.
