When I was living in Italy for professional reason, I used to own a Honda S2000 that was consuming quite a bit of oil.... mind you the boiler was turning at 9k rpm max... turns out it was quite normal for this particular engine, but lubrication was kind of a big discussion subject.
One day talking about this with my trusted mechanic :
"wellllllllll, you see oil change is like taking a shower..... you sure would live more or less as long taking a shower once or twice a week ..... but how good does it feel to keep clean a little more often than that ? And who know what kind of strange stuff would accumulate on your skin.... Well you see, it's pretty much the same for your engine.... "
Since then whatever the recommendation I do oil and filter change every 3 to 4K. Never had any problem whatever the car I had

. That 2l 9k revving engine lasted for pretty much 130k miles without ever missing a beat and that's cause I sold it... and believe me I didn't got that nickname for no reason. this mechanic did fund the right words to put it in perspective
