I was at the Chicago Auto Show last night.
I too was told at the show that the ABL was to be door only for MY2010, working to get it on the dash as well for MY2011 by one of the guys on the floor. Stated reason was quality / cosmetics. In hot environments the dash slightly warped. They estimated that it would take roughly 3 years. Not really an issue that you could see; unless of course you highlight it with a nice light bar. This gentlemen seemed very knowledgeable.
Before you ask, yes you can do accelerated testing to predict wear and heat fatigue in a greatly shortened time frame. You simply cycle the heat / vibration / etc by compressing out all the non-damaging portions of the load cycle.
Balance that information with this:
Right after sitting in the 2SS/RS (so sweet!) they had at the show a different floor person was answering questions from someone. He was asked about the gage 4 pack and what the top left gage is. I knew it was the oil pressure gage; not like this is rocket science. He answered: "I don't know why they have that gage on there because its useless. There isn't a supercharger on this car. It goes all the way to 70 psi because they don't want to have to engineer new gages for every car"
I was so shocked I was speachless. Then my fiance (who drives a Cavalier) called him out on it! It was 3-4 min before I could stop laughing!
