No, I don't "automatically" assume everyone likes the car. It suffers from a few plagues (interior, weight, rear end) just like other competing cars. However, the performance, will not be on par with the z06, I promise you. It won't, there's no way. Z06 is running 10's with tires, do you think the zl1 will run 10s with just tires?
It's gonna be a few ticks behind the GS I would say, it should be solid competition for the cars I mentioned before.
