Mine wasn't making odd noises in the beginnig either. But that was during the cold weather here. What was being caught at that time was a thick foamy sludge. It's possible on mine that the foam was quieting down the check valve.
To the one that posted about replacing the stock piece instead of cutting. Yes do it. There is no way I would cut my stock line.
