Tracy said the check valve was part of the design that helps the can keep more oil out of the intake. It does make sense and my testing has confirmed this. But it will take me a week of daily driving (300 miles) to decide how much difference.

I too am a bit confused about whether the AN option has the check valve. I always assumed so.

Just to note. Tracy has made a design change since I got my can. It seemed like a good change. Without seeing it in action via a sight glass, one can only assume the effect on flow.
