We use the same bulb type seal on all of our intakes and have never had a complaint about tearing up the hood liner. Our hose couplers absorb most of the engine rock which means the air box itself sees very little movement. My guess is intakes that have a problem with the hood liner either use a different type of seal or their intake design transfers the motor rock to the air box wall itself which would cause repetitious movement, thus wear.
