Sorry to say there is no guarantee of no CEL with shorties. I chose shorties to avoid them but made the poor choice of going with JBA (didn't do my homeswork).
They are an inferior design made with poor materials. After following their instrutions to the letter, I still got leaks (both sides) at the "stacker flange" attachment point. They expect a clamp to maintain an air tight seal between the header and the rest of tha exhaust system.
Funny how their shorty header for the V8 has a traditional bolt-together clamp.
So I got a CEL. I was able to seal the leak temporarily with some stuff called "Acousti/seal exhaust system sealinng compound" part #35959 made by Tenneco, but then I had some service done and they had to drop the exhaust. Bye-bye seal, back to square 1!
