It's challenging. It's using an engine similar to Half Life 2, great graphics, a very amusing storyline (better if you played Portal 1 first though)...
You have a gun, and you can place portals on many walls. You also have other things you can do, and the challenge is to get around various chambers, rooms and large interior spaces using the portal gun to progress. It's a great 3D challenge, and you have to think outside the box many times.
Consider this. A Portal has a orange side and a blue side. Place a blue portal on the ceiling above you, then place a orange portal below you. What happens?
Well...you fall infinately. You reach terminal velocity. Now...while you're doing this, what would happen if you placed the blue portal on the wall next to you. Well...you'd shoot out at high speed horizontally. Using these types of techniques, you can vault huge caverns, or get to platforms. There's other techniques, but maybe that will help expand your thinking on ways the portals can be used.
