if i understand right the V6 has smaller pipes becasue its not pushing as much exaust so just by making the pipes bigger you get the same (almost) sound .. same tone different fluxuation .
so far i've talked with my Mechanic:
CAI = +18 hp
catback =+ 10-15 hp
Diablo Chip = +20-40 hp (depending on V8 or V6)
so if this is true my 312 hp V6 can sound like a V8 and have nearly the power of a stock V8 at 385 hp potentially.
my 3/4 ton 2500 suburban has a six liter V8 and nearly the same hp as my V6 could have and i pull a 31' travel trailer with my suburban. that is alot of power and tourqe in a car brothers.
not to mention that we could change the gears and get a better 1/4 mile than a stock V8
point is that its all about your individual build what you do with your car and how you drive it.
technically no a V6 and V8 cant sound the same but they can have the same tone for sure.
just sayin

Not that the V6 wouldn't be sufficient in this application, but the reason your Suburban makes easy work of pulling that travel trailer is it's low end torque. The V6 makes about 275lb-ft of torque which isn't bad, but I'm guessing the 6-liter V8 in your Suburban makes a good bit more and is available much earlier in the RPM range.
