When I hit the gas I expect certain things to happen in the drivetrain that also translate to the seat of my pants. Neither happened. I think in the simplest terms there is no way to build a TOTALLY SMOKIN V8 american car for a measly $30k price. You may be able to mod the motor/tranny into that territory but out of the box I think it's a dud.

However on drivingthe V6, which is lighter, and also the tranny shift points seemed to match itPERFECTLY, it was a lot more fun to drive. And a vert no less. So I got the V6 vert and love it. On a drag strip time slip maybe it doesn't come close to the V8 time slip, but to my ass the V6 feels faster and that's all I care about in this type of car - having fun.

For you changing the rear end gears is a good idea, say to 3.73 or 4.11 also I read somewhere that you need to pull a fuse to reset the ECM if low octane gas was ever used (including by the dealer prior to you buying the car) as once it detects that gas it gets 'stuck' on that fuel table / timing curve even if u refill up with high octane.
I drove a l99 at main street in motion and I to was underwhelmed. A 4th gen owner did also and drove the v6. Said the same thing, lighter and quicker, or I would say maybe more fun.
