Your husband's not BS'ing you. Purple Hornies glasspack mufflers are still made by Flowtech. You certainly can't get cheaper loud, low restriction mufflers than glasspacks, but I can't vouch for the sound. I had some Thrush glasspacks on my Roadrunner many, many years ago and liked them at the time, but was it better than today's sound? If you're talking 442 though, if not stock, it probably had glasspacks of some sort on it.
One problem might be the return sensor tubes on the Camaro muffler, at least the upgrade muffler shown below has them and I imagine the stock mufflers too. Also, glasspack's may be too loud to be within legal limits....if you happen care about that.
