yes they had an LT1 SS. it debuted in 96. theres more to the SS cars than just the hood. they have a different intake setup (same manifold, different plastics) to work with the functional hood scoop. they had an SLP catback exhaust option as well as other visual mods, spoiler, wheels, etc.

the LT1 intake snaked back around and had the filter above the intake manifold and the scoop directed air right there. the LS1 had an intake at the front of the engine bay on top of the radiator and the scoop on the hood directed air back towards the front to the intake.

SSZ28's came from the factory with a little bit more power than the regular Z28. but with a few mods, you can easily add more power
