I have no delusions in thinking that a V6 could keep up with a V8. Maybe if a twin turbo or a supercharger came into play, they'd have a chance but stock to stock? No way.
That being said, my Camaro is my DD so V6 was more appealing due to MPG. Granted its not much better, but my last 2 vehicles were both of the Jeep variety and I was lucky if I got 15 MPG on average. INCLUDING highway miles.
The other factor for me was that I wanted a convertible and I cannot justify dropping that kind of coin for the V8 version when my car has all the bells and whistles of the V8 - minus a couple cylinders.
Do I at times wish I had the V8 so I could blow smoke up some punks AZZ who thinks he all badazz by trying to goad me into racing my stock V6 against his modded V8 mustang? Sure. But I find comfort in knowing that while his car may be faster, mine is 10 times sexier.... because of the car itself, and because I am driving it.
