everyone knows that most times during rear end accidents, the fault lies with the person in the back. But because I absolutely hate blacked out lights, I have asked police officers what the laws are. Once you black out the lens, regardless of where you live, it becomes a liability. He stated that if you are rear ended, and you have blacked out lenses, you will usually be at fault...day or night. He did say that it is not cut and dry, that all accidents have their own factors, but you would be running a huge risk.

I try not to be "one of those people" but my neighbors 16 year old son blacked out the lenses on his 1500, and one day while following him at night, I could barely see his brake lights. I spoke with his parents (for safety sake only) and the next day he had new lenses. In my defense, he took the lenses off and sprayed black rattle can paint on them. Crazy....
