Aftermarket HID

I wish I had your money!

But for a more frugal consumer, wouldn't aftermarket HIDs be available at some point for a lot less money? I personally have zero interest in HIDs, and if I did have interest in them I would prefer the factory-installed lights compared to an aftermarket product. But sometimes, the factory price is simply out of line. IMO.
I recently looked into aftermarket HIDs for my other car after getting them on my Enclave. I couldn't find any that were street legal. For the cars where they are a standalone option they are usually about $500. I believe they need to have a self leveling mechinism, which may be very difficult to retro fit. I love mine and may have skipped the RS option if they were available alone, however the larger wheels/tires and other stuff make the package a good buy for a 2LT like I'm getting.
