When your reaching the performance potential these cars are.....it gets very pricy to extract more and keep the price down.
I think the ZR1 is worth it, but the Z06 is an amazing bargain that is much more attainable to a wider buyer pool. I may never get the chance to own a ZR1 but was lucky enough to buy a used Z06 just due to supply/demand/depreciation in 2009.
