Nail Through Tire And Rim

Hey,
Saturday I caught a huge nail in my rear passenger tire, of course, resulting in a flat tire. Well, it came through the tire and the rim. It gouged a piece of pie shaped piece out of the rim on the edge. My dealership called about an hour ago and said the tire is covered, but the rim is not covered because it is considered cosmetic. I did not think to take pictures yesterday. I have called the dealership to see if I can come down and take pictures today. Hopefully I will be able to stop in there and take pictures. It seems to me that a nail should not be able to puncture a rim. I don't have a lot of knowledge about tires and rims, though. I do have a respectable dealership. My last post on here, they gouged/scratched the passenger front rim on the machine, and they eventually replaced it with a new rim. I had also picked up a nail in the front passenger tire resulting in a slow leak. I've had the car six months. It's a Cyber Grey 2011 RS 2LT. I looked on the forum to see if this was just happening to me. There are a few threads about this topic. I guess I am just wondering about opinions on cosmetic damage verses the rims being possibly not as strong as maybe they should be. If I am allowed to take pictures I will post them on here ASAP. The nail head is in the back of the tire, and you can see where the nail comes through the rim diagonally.
Oh, I am very thankful that I am okay. I just put my hazards on and pulled over to the side of the road -- no major excitement.
