As I stated before, put a spring washer between the two for a little added security. If yours did come with two nuts from the factory, post up a picture of the setup and I'll give you my 2cents on the install.

I may be wrong as it's been a while. If it does only have the one nut, and the OP installed the shaft on top of it, then I can see why it would have way more stress. Will check tonight to see what mine looks like. To note I didn't have a problem with mine and it's a 300+ mile a week daily driver.
