My wife and I own a Mustang and a Camaro. Before I bought my Camaro, I test drove both cars and abused them. I wrote a pretty long comparison a while back. Here is the short. You get more options for the same dollars on the Mustang. On the street straighline performance and the stock GT felt a tick quicker but honestly with the way the Camaro hooked up with it's meatier tires I think any race between the two would be a drivers race and not the car. What may seem boring to your buddy is that the Camaro is very easy to launch hard and keep controlled whereas the Stang tends to need to be tippytoed a little out of the hole (on regular street roads). I personally liked the seats and interior in the Camaro and the way you sit down in the Camaro more. The exhaust on the GT was far more impressive. GM should be ashamed of the stock exhaust on the Camaro as it has no muscle car tone at all and they bragged about how much effort they put into the tone of the exhaust, apparently they needed a little more time around the old muscle cars again. Exterior styling and the Camaro is a clear winner. Handling and I thought that I could push the Camaro harder and faster though some pretty tough twisties on not so great road surfaces. Again this is partially due to the width of the tires and the compounds. Ride quality, I liked the Camaro more. Find a local dealer that will let you really test drive the bejesus out of both and then pick the one you like best. Although they are similar, they have different feels behind the wheel.
