It's been many years since I caused an accident. Tonight, I was driving home. I was about half a block from home, at a stop sign when this happened.
I was waiting at the stop sign on an east/west street. The north/south street was a through street. There was a car at the western stop sign that had gotten there before me, so I was waiting for her to go first. She had lots of opportunities, but was being very cautious. Finally, the north/south street cleared, and she still didn't go. I motioned for her to go, since she was there first...and finally she got the point and turned left onto the north/south street.
I looked right, then left, then right again. My mistake was pulling out before I looked right the second time. I didn't see anyone on the first look. When I looked the second time, the SUV was right there, and nothing I could do but get hit. Totally my fault.
Apparently, the SUV had just turned south onto the north/south street from the first driveway on the east side (a left turn), which was about 60-75 feet away, so I just didn't see anyone coming. Bad timing for me, but still my fault.
