I've had manuals all my life and I have enjoyed them, they are fun to drive and am very glad that I know how to drive manual transmissions. That being said I'm getting a auto tranny, mainly because I want to cruise and not worry about anything just enjoy the experience. Some will say that by not shifting you are not in control or not having the full driving experience, that may be true to some extent but I modern autos are very different that 10 years ago. A friend of mine has a Ferrari with paddle shifters on an automatic and I don't know anyone that doesn't consider his car a sports cars. I also remember how it is to be in traffic for over one hour with a stick, not my idea of fun. If you have never driven a manual before getting behind a 300 or 426 HP engine is not the right time to learn. Get the car you want, your friends may have an opinion but ultimately you are the one making the payments and the car will be in your carport.
