As far as I'm concerned the L bracket is a much better option. It locates the can in a position that looks better and is more secure. Even with the new hardened stud it will create a bending moment on the mounting stud by the can being suspended way out at the end of the rod. It may last much longer but seems to me it will have potential to eventually fail (may take 20 years, hard to say). It may be a good Idea to routinely check the tensioner bolt for tightness since it is a right hand thread and the can is mounted to the left hand side. JMHO
