We know the format for the VINs. We know the code for each engine type and model. So basically we just plug each possible vin into
http://www.chevrolet.com/ws/nvlWindowSticker.cv?VIN= and see if it works. I've got a program that automates and logs this. It runs each morning at 7am to update the files at
http://camaro.spasticsquirrel.com. heinzd01 has written a similar script but he has actually been maintaining a spreadsheet with all of the information by hand. So it's not really available per say outside of GM but through a "brute force" process we can figure them out ourselves.
