The only purpose cats serve is for emissions nothing else benificial as far as performance, in fact it is probably easier on the engine to go without. Like I said I am not an expert that is just my understanding. Also would assume it would make the exhaust slightly louder do to higher flow, probably not much
I ran my little s10 for years with a gutted cat pulling a lawn trailer and it ran like a champ.
