All fair points.

Some I think are confusing push button start with remote start.
And the way push button start works.

Romote start is just a function that lets you start the car while still in the house or whatever to let it heat up or cool down the inside if you preset your climate controls. You MUST have the hood shut. The car must be in park. Car will not do anythning else until you put the key in it. Car shuts off after ten minutes and only allows you to do it twice without putting the key in it. It's not offered on the manual transmission. (though you can do it aftermarket)

Push button start is not like the old days where you put the key in and push the button. It completely replaces the key. The car detects the key is inside the cabin and allows the car to be started with your foot on the brake. Never have to touch the key. Also you never have to take the key out of your pocket to unlock and open the door. As soon as you touch the door handle, it unlocks and you open the door. As long as the key is within three or four feet from the door handle.

There are goods and bads to it. IMO there are many more goods. Hardly any bads that I've eve experienced. We've had it for years. It warns you when you walk away from it with the car on and no key in the cabin. And I've never had one not work. Except the battery got low. But the DIC gave a warning that said "Key Battery Low" so Bonnie knew to change it. Got a battery at Lowes.

If the Camaro had it I would love it. I'd even pay extra for it. I just like it. But I wouldnt' pay more than 100.00 or so for it. Not that important.

Different. Those still had a key. They didn't detect the key in the cab and let you start it without taking the key out of your pocket.

they do have the remote starts, so you can leave your keys in your pocket. i hate these, you will forget where the hell your keys are. my friend left hers on her roof and the car started just fine. she drove down the highway and they flew off, never to be seen again. she didn't know they flew off until about 10 miles down the road when her car shut off because the keys were not in proximity.

she also didn't have her house key because it was on the keychain that was spattered somewhere on the highway. it was also sunday so she couldn't find a locksmith in a quick amount of time to get her into her apartment so she could get her other key. about midnight the locksmith showed up. partly her fault for sure, but still, that story alone made me never want proximity access to a vehicle.
OMFG...... THAT kind would suck.

On the Lexus, if you sit in the car, take the key and just put it out the window, it will start beeping at you. Unless you're def, you can't make that mistake. And it won't start if the key is not INSIDE the car. How it detects that, I don't know. But I put it to the test.
