to the OP, Check out Hooker Super Comp LT's. they have a slip-fit joint on the #1 primary that eliminates the need to have to disconnect the steering rod to slip it between the primary tubes.

Also, if you are planning on installing LT's, get a new set of polyurethane engine mounts and change those out while the exhaust is off the car. it will help realign the engine in the engine bay and raise it a hair or two which will allow for easier installation of the new headers.
You do realize that ARH hand Kooks makes LT's for the LS1 4th gen right?

Also you don't need to remove the steering shaft to install the ARH headers on these cars. I don't know that any headers for these cars has the steering shaft running through the headers to begin with.
