Very true... I'm not sure they all actually seal to the hood, but ours certainly does. This method gives you all the advantages of a box with a lid plus the advantage of more space around the filter to draw air. Further, the additional space allows us to run a larger filter. It's one of the reasons why our system does so well with cars adding power mods such as heads/cam, S/C, etc.
