Are you referring to this L bracket? I just installed one on a V8 and it fit prefectly. I replaced the OEM shroud mounting screw as its length was somewhat short and filed the shroud mounting surface to allow the L bracket to set flush. The can is just contacting the shroud thus eliminating any cantilever force effect. The OEM metric screw was replaced with a 5/16"-12 x 1" sourced from McMaster-Carr, P/N 93880A583.

That's very interesting. Using the "L" bracket, intended for the V6, mine would not fit in that spot without interference with the items to the left of your can. When I get a chance I will post a picture. I have had no further issues after changing to the different bracket.
